  • What changed A directory somebody has to curate → one where listing owners keep their own entries current
  • Built first The listing and filter model, before any screen — retrofitting filters is the expensive mistake
  • SEO Every listing is its own indexable page rather than a filter state

Described rather than measured. We publish numbers only where we have them.

The problem

Directories are easy to launch and hard to keep. The listings go stale, the search returns everything or nothing, and moderating submissions becomes a full-time job nobody was hired for. Most directory templates optimise for the day of launch, not month six.

What we did

We built the listing model first — categories, locations, the attributes people actually filter by — before a single screen was designed, because retrofitting a filter into a directory is expensive. Listing owners can claim and update their own entries, which is what keeps the data fresh without a moderator doing it by hand. Submissions go through a moderation queue with clear rules. Search and filtering were built to stay fast as the listing count grows, and every listing page is individually indexable so the directory earns search traffic rather than hiding it behind a filter.
